Vandaag zou het Europees Kampioenschap Spartan Race plaatsvinden op Tenerife. Ondaks de corona-pandemie heeft Spartan besloten het evenement toch door te laten gaan. Atleten uit heel Europa zijn afgereisd naar de Canarische Eilanden om dit weekend te strijden voor de Europese titel. Helaas voor atleten en organisatie dacht de Spaanse overheid er anders over en is gisterenavond om 22.30 uur besloten het evenement voor vandaag definitief niet door te laten gaan. Het is nog onduidelijk of morgen wel doorgang kan vinden en of we Frank Oosterom nog gaan zien racen. Het evenement was al eerder verzet en lijkt nu definitief geannuleerd te worden. De publiciteitscampagne via de Instagram Stories van Spartan Race Europe lijkt daar nog weinig aan te kunnen veranderen.

Faced with this decision, we have urgently and administratively submitted an appeal before the Ministry of Health of the Canary Government demanding the immediate authorization of the Spartan Race Tenerife sporting event given the enormous damage to you, our racers that travelled to Tenerife for this event, but also considering the social, economic, operational, political and image implications. Vanmiddag om 17.00 uur komt er een update omdat Spartan denkt dat het evenement van zondag nog wel door kan gaan. We blijven het volgen.
